Many pet owners experience aggravation when it comes to chewing problems and their dogs. Although dog barking might be the number one behavioral problem, this one often comes close.

Below are four common situations that pet owners often seek help for and some basic solutions that you can try.

Chewing Furniture

If you find that your dog is always chewing on furniture and chairs, there are many things that you can do to stop this. One quick thing to try is to use either use plastic furniture guards on the areas that your pet likes to chew, or spray a product called Bitter Apple on the furniture.

Destroying the Car

If you find that your dog loves to rip apart the armrest in your truck or the car, you may want to think about keeping a crate in the backseat. Keeping your dog confined in a crate while you're driving around is an acceptable solution, but try to keep more to toys in the back seat to keep them entertained.

Destroying the Garden

If your pet is chewing up your favorite garden or household plants you think about limiting your dog's access to them. For gardens you can actually put a physical fence around them. For household plants, you may want to think about raising them so they are out of the dog's reach.

Mouthing Shoes

Many dogs chew on to shoes, because the owners unknowingly train them that it is okay to do so. You should never give your dog an old shoe to chew on because they will soon learn that it is OK to chew on new shoes. Do not give your dog chew toys in the shape of any household items that you do not want them to chew on.

Ultimately the main solution comes down to keeping your dog occupied. You could trying to offer them more things to do, like taking them for a walk in the park more often, or offer them a constantly rotating toy supply.

As you can see, dog chewing is a common dog behavioral problem that has some very simple solutions.
